Jason has been a police officer since 2003. He started as a patrol officer with the City of Madison in 2005 and in 2016 became a Madison Police Dual Purpose K9 Handler and is currently working K9 Allied.

Jason has been working as a decoy for the Madison Police Department's K9 Unit since he was hired. From all his decoying and training with the K9 Unit he knew he wanted to work a dog. After working closely with Carren and Alyssa, Jason decided that he also wanted to begin working an HRD dog.

In December, 2013 Jason rescued Crosby from LEARN, a Labrador Retriever rescue that serves WI and IL. Crosby has received Human Remains Detection certifications with NNDDA (National Narcotic Detector Dog Association) since 2014. Crosby has participated in numerous searches in WI, IL, and MN.

In September 2019, Jason decided his next working partner would be a little, spitfire female Dutch Shepherd, Vada. Vada is out of Eric Peterson's HRD dog, Ninja, and she clearly passed her great working drive to her offspring. Vada has been in training for HRD and Jason is planning on certifying her soon.
